chademo
I saw you will be offering a Chademo fast charge option. I am very interested in this. I converted my Vectrix VX1 with a 72 Ah LiFePO4 pack of 42 cells and a elcon charger (non- CAN bus). Will the Chademo option work in combination with this?
Answer
Hi
No - CHADEMO requaires CANBUs communication between charging station and vehicle.
I assume your conversion doesn't have any BMS to controll each cell voltage? The interface between charging station and bike needs to hear to High Cell, Low Cell, battery capacity, SOC which are transmitted on CAN by our BMS and charger.
Regards
Thank you very much for your answer. I do have a BMS system, but its not using CAN en thus it is not connected to the CAN bus of the scooter. So I think your Chademo option will not work for me. Probably most NiMH to Li converted bikes can't use your system in that case. The Dutch firm "new electric" has an Chademo kit available almost as a "stand alone" unit. The SOC is determined by a shunt, pack voltage is measured and I guess that high and low cell are "faked" if the BMS cannot be used for that.
Is something like this an idia for you to apply? All home converted Vectrix could benefit from your Chademo option independant of the BMS system used.
Hi
It would be very dangarous to use stand alone CHADEMO system estimating SOC on pack voltage.
CHADEMO charging station can provide very high DC current - 100A and easily overcharge some cells if the system doesn't monitor each cell voltage.
For all home made / DIY conversion we recommend to use our universal BMS system - http://shop.vectrixparts.com/vx1-bms-board.html
Not only it will protect battery from over charge/discharge but will provide accurate range calculation, reduce power when cells are going low, reduce regen when cells are full, can be used with oryginal NiMH charger etc.
