Reprogramming VX1 after lithium battery upgrade

Gary 1 year ago updated by Azzuro 1 year ago 12

I just swapped in 36s Chevy Volt batteries to a VX1. I am not yet using a BMS. The original nimh temperatures sensors were non-functional before the swap due to corrosion, so those temperature sensors have been removed. I am super excited that the scooter runs well; however:

  1. the original ESD charger only works for ~10-15 seconds then shuts off, likely due to the missing temperature sensors
  2. the wrench and temperature dash lights always flash, likely due to the missing temperature sensors

I would like to take a minimalist approach to get the ESD charger working and turn off the dash warning lights. I have the PCAN adapter, have successfully monitored the CAN bus, but have not attempted reprogramming any controllers yet. I have spent ~20-30 hours reading many forum posts to try doing this myself. Much of this information is from 8-10 years ago and there are frequent horror stories of bricking scooters due to something happening during controller reprogramming, which has me scared.

What are people's opinions on the Dugas versus The Laird's firmware files?  Can someone point me to the most recent version and procedure to reprogram my ESD charger to work with these 36s lithium batteries?

plastic front parts / charger replacement

Pudding 1 year ago updated by Sylvain Lecœur 1 year ago 5

hi there, does anyone have a guideline how to take apart the front plastic parts? I would like to change the charger without breaking anything. First look doesn't show many screws. I am scared to break anything....

Sorry If ask a stupid question, there's just so much info but I don't know where to start....thank you

will the scooter run without BMS?

Pudding 1 year ago updated 1 year ago 8

Hi everyone, I am a newbe here. Nice to meet you all. I got myself a second hand vx-1 as good as new (<500km!) and want to start using it as a commute for my new job. It has a dead battery's of course so I am slowly starting to learn about this machine. There is so much info on the web that I don't know where to start.... For now I would like to know if the scooter will  run without the bms being connected. Charging will be a problem of course but just as an idea, a step by step understanding of the machine, does the engine control needs to have "a green flag" from the bms? I will have a lot more to ask (and to read) but for this saturday afternoon this will do... :-) I hope to contribute as well to this forum later on. Thank you, greetings from Haarlem NL

VX1 for sale

Steve Gordon 2 years ago 0

2008 Vectrix VX1 for sale cheap! Bought new in 2011 from Colorado Power Sports. Less than 800 miles, powers up with error codes, I'm sure the batteries are done.

Scooter is white, with windscreen and center kickstand, everything looks/works great except the error codes.

Seriously, I will accept any offer, as is/where is. Where is Huntsville, Alabama. Call Steve 256-655-1240

Inner tube for rear tyre of VX-2

Nickel 2 years ago updated by Azzuro 2 years ago 3

I need a replacement inner tube for my rear tyre, but it is a non standard tube because of the hub motor.  I cannot source a replacement anywhere even the vextrix spares site, even though the parts list includes: "SV30802 tube rear tire "

Does anyone know how I can get hold of one (or three to be on the safe side given these are so difficult to source!) of these.

Thanks.

Nickel

Ordering a replacement gearbox (mine has a lot of play in it) Are the new ones of better quality?

R Sinclair 3 years ago 0

Hello, I have two Vectrix VX-1s. One has sloppy gears (clicks when turning by hand and really noisy when driven. My other one is much tighter. If I order a replacement gearbox any guaranty the replacement will be of good quality?
