Burnt VX1 LiFepo4 update from 2013

alexdominguez09 7 years ago updated 7 years ago 2

Hello,

I just had a second hand Vextrix Vx1, updated by Vextrix in 2013 to lifePo4 (36 32Ah LifePo4 cells) with x4 BMS boards on top. One of the BMS board was literary black burnt and the 200 amp fuse was blown too. Also 32 cells were completely broken, they do not hold any charge and they are inflated like balloons.

The charger is a EVPS (Runke) , but dont know the revision yet.

Now, I bought 18650 li-ion cells to build 36 cells of 62Ah, and my doubt is with the BMS:

- get one of the stock BMS boards for the 9 cells wouldn have one.

- get your BMS for Vectrix VX1.

Would you recomend a solution or configuration for may case?. If a get the BMS from you, do I need to change or update the charger or can I keep it?.

best regards

Alex

Answer

Hi Alex

I recommend you our new BMS system - http://shop.vectrixparts.com/vx1-bms-board.html

Improved and fully protected - no more problem with connecting / disconnecting from battery. Firmware with setting for 36S Li-ion

You don't need to modify charger, but if you need shorter charging time - we offer now 3.3kW unit.

We will provide you also latest firmware for charger and MC - for Li-ion version.

If you send us drawing or picture of your new battery pack we can even preapare you custom battery to BMS wire harness.

To use stock VX-1 BMS board you will need an adaptor board - we use to sell them, but no more interest so we don't keept them on stock - http://shop.vectrixparts.com/vx1-bms-adaptor-pcb-case.html.

Motor Controllers

Jonathan McDonnell 8 years ago 0

I have just blown my motor controller and will need to order another. What is the real difference between the used and new controllers? Also my guess is the main fuse is probably blown. Do the MC's come with new fuses?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Termination Codes

Dominic Hanselmann 8 years ago updated by piotrstec (Managing Director) 8 years ago 1

Hi

Is there any overview about the different charging termination codes?

EC049 is normal

my bike displays EC050 and I have no idea what that means. It does not equalize properly and cells have about 0.35V difference. After some charging time, display and charging switches completely off, so I have to turn the ignition key to see the code. Is this normal? I thought if the charging finishes properly, the display stays on?

Any hint what to look for?

Dominic

Answer

Look here for codes. Charging Termination Codes - Li bikes

Yes when charging is terminated (regardless of reason) - display switches off and to see the code you need to turn ignition key before unplugging bike from the AC socket.

Where is the charger fuse located?

DanDiego 8 years ago updated 8 years ago 5

Bike doesn't charge. I see a charger replacement fuse kit on the website. Where exactly is the fuse located? Did not see it in the manuals. Thanks.

Answer

DanDiego

Our charger fuse kit is an upgrade - DIY instalation kit. Oryginally chargers where not equipped in fuse.

Armand is right - sometimes disconnecting the charger will reset it - you need to disconnect the DC cable. It's location deppends on the type of charger you have.

Check the links below: Charger Types - compatibility with Lithium Batteries SX-BC-CONV

Battery Charger Replacement S-XC-S00540

Do be sure that charger doesn't work you need to check what is the battery voltage. Below 80V it won't start by itself.

chademo

zwrtw 8 years ago updated by Matteo Zordan (Technical Director) 8 years ago 3

I saw you will be offering a Chademo fast charge option. I am very interested in this. I converted my Vectrix VX1 with a 72 Ah LiFePO4 pack of 42 cells and a elcon charger (non- CAN bus). Will the Chademo option work in combination with this?

Answer

Hi

It would be very dangarous to use stand alone CHADEMO system estimating SOC on pack voltage.

CHADEMO charging station can provide very high DC current - 100A and easily overcharge some cells if the system doesn't monitor each cell voltage.

For all home made / DIY conversion we recommend to use our universal BMS system - http://shop.vectrixparts.com/vx1-bms-board.html

Not only it will protect battery from over charge/discharge but will provide accurate range calculation, reduce power when cells are going low, reduce regen when cells are full, can be used with oryginal NiMH charger etc.
